Melnik is the smallest city in Bulgaria. It is located in the south-west of Pirin mountain. The city is famous with it’s earth pyramids, which present a fairy-tail of natural sculptures with different shape and outline - the most impressive is with a shape of sand mushrooms. Melnik is famous for it’s red wine and architectural historical houses.

The museum of history in Melnik is based in Pashatova house and represents the culture and means of livelihood of the local people. Kordopulov’s house, build in 1758 is the most preserved house of XIX century on the Balkan Peninsula. Rojen monastery is located 6 kilometres east of Melnik near Rojen village, on top the crest of a high hill with a view of Pirin’s peaks and Belasica, fenced by the Melnik pyramids. The monastery church “Rojdestvo Bogorodichno” keeps valuable wall-paintings, glass-paintings and wood-carvings.
